Official Microsoft Support Install Windows 11 on MacBook

Parallels Desktop is the only 3rd-party virtual machine solution recognized by Microsoft for installing Windows 11 on next-generation Mac computers, in addition to the Windows 365 subscription service.

On February 16, Microsoft posted instructions for installing Windows 11 on Mac computers using Apple M1 and M2 CPUs. Accordingly, the company provides 2 options for its operating system to work on Apple’s new generation devices. Includes Windows 365 Cloud PC and Parallels Desktop.

Previously, Alludo announced this capability in the Parallels Desktop virtual machine. With the new document, the official formula from Microsoft was received and approved. It is also the only 3rd party software that is agreed upon.

Windows 365 Cloud PC is suitable for business customers. Windows 365 service subscription prices start at $31/user/month. With this option, the OS running on a Microsoft server is connected to a PC (or Mac or iPad) through ultra-fast bandwidth.

Therefore, it easily runs on M1 and M2 Macs. Buyers of the service can choose CPU, amount of RAM, and storage. This solution also allows companies to easily manage device pools.

For individual users, Parallels Desktop is the way to go. “Parallels Desktop 18 is an authorized solution for running Arm editions of Windows 11 Pro and Windows 11 Enterprise in a virtual environment on Apple M1 and M2 computers,” says Microsoft’s support page.
On the same day, Alludo also released a press release talking about using their Parallels Desktop virtualization software to run Windows 11 on Apple Silicon.

Unlike Windows 365, this solution allows the operating system to run on the Mac, in a virtual machine. As a result, it uses the Windows 11 version for Arm instead of the standard Windows 11 found on Intel/AMD devices.

The limitation of the Arm version is the lack of some hardware drivers, and applications, especially games and anti-virus software. Some Windows apps only work if they support Windows 11 Arm. Games that require DirectX 12 or OpenGL3.3 will also not run.

Users will not get some of the latest features, including running Android apps, GNU/Linux environment on Windows 11, and Windows Sandbox – a lean computing environment for running safe, secure applications virtualization-based (VBS).

Previously, users could install Windows directly on a Mac using Apple’s Boot Camp feature. However, it only works with devices that use Intel CPUs.
