# **The power of the iPhone 15 Pro chip is revealed** ## **The 3nm A17 Bionic processor that powers the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra will bring something admirable?** This year , the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra / iPhone 15 Pro Max pairs will be powered by the A17 Bionic chip, which will be the first chip manufactured by the 3nm process at TSMC. It is estimated that the density of transistors in this chip will be in the range of 20-24 billion. This is much larger than the 16 billion transistors inside the A16 Bionic. Usually, the higher the number of transistors, the more powerful and energy efficient the chip is. The last three generations of A-series chips, the A14 Bionic, A15 Bionic and A16 Bionic are all manufactured using different versions of the 5nm process. More specifically, the A16 Bionic chip is only manufactured under the enhanced 5nm process. ## **A17 Bionic structure?** Previously, the iPhone 11 series used 7nm A13 Bionic chip and contained 8.5 billion transistors. The iPhone 12 series uses a 5nm A14 Bionic chip with 11.8 billion transistors. The 5nm A15 Bionic of the iPhone 13 series contains 15 billion transistors, and this number has increased to 16 billion for the A16 Bionic chip on the iPhone 14 Pro pair. This year, the A17 Bionic chip will keep the same 6-core structure, including: 4 efficient cores and 2 high performance cores. Apple used ARM’s v8.6 architecture for the A16 Bionic and will use ARM’s v9 architecture for this year’s chip. On the A16 Bionic chip, Apple has not made many changes to the Neural Engine – Neutral Engine, used for machine learning – machine learning and Artificial Intelligence – AI. However, with the 3nm process this year, the increase will be up to 18%, reaching 20 trillion operations/second, up from 17 trillion. This is thanks to the company increasing the core count from the current 16 cores. And yet, “Apple House” can upgrade to LPDDR5X RAM from LPDDR5 RAM on the iPhone 14 Pro pair. The iPhone 14 models also have 6GB of RAM but only the slower LPDDR4X standard. ## **Apple will use Qualcomm’s 5G modem for the A17 Bionic chip** Using LPDDR5X RAM for the A17 Bionic this year will result in 33% faster maximum data speeds, 25% lower latency. As for the GPU, experts hope, Apple will continue to keep the performance increase of about 20% like every year. Finally, Apple will once again rely on Qualcomm’s 5G modem – the X70 for this year’s high-end iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra. Qualcomm CEO – Cristiano Amon said, “Apple Defect” will start using the company’s own 5G modem from next year with the iPhone 16 series in 2024. This year, Qualcomm still provides 100% of the 5G modem for iPhone but will drop to 20% next year.
